French Baccalaureate or International Baccalaureate
Which diploma should you choose for your child in Rome ?
A rare level of flexibility in Rome to support every learner
Every child learns differently, progresses differently, and dreams differently. In Rome, few schools are truly able to offer an academic pathway that adapts to this diversity.
At the Institut International Saint‑Dominique, two international diplomas coexist: the French Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
This dual offer, unique in Rome, allows families to choose not the “best diploma” in general, but the best diploma for their child.
A school environment where every pathway finds its place and where each student can reveal their full potential.
Two pathways of excellence, two ways to grow
Within an international campus bringing together more than 40 nationalities, students can choose between: a structured and progressive academic pathway, an international curriculum based on inquiry, autonomy, and global awareness. These two diplomas are not in opposition : they complement one another. And it is precisely this complementarity that makes IISD Rome so strong.
The French Baccalaureate and the ESABAC pathway: a solid structure for lasting foundations
At IISD, the French Baccalaureate is offered with the possibility of obtaining the ESABAC double diploma, which allows students to graduate with both the French Baccalaureate and the Italian Esame di Stato. This demanding and structured pathway provides a solid academic framework, ideal for building lasting knowledge, developing a rich cultural foundation, and strengthening critical thinking skills. It is based on: a clear and coherent progression from primary school to high school, in‑depth mastery of key academic subjects, personalized guidance in choosing specializations, effective preparation for higher education in France, Italy, Europe, and worldwide. This diploma is particularly suited to students who appreciate logic, structure, and continuity, and who wish to benefit from dual French‑Italian academic recognition.
The International Baccalaureate (IB): a global diploma for a globalized world
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is designed for students who are curious, independent, and open‑minded. At IISD, this pathway also includes two pre‑IB years (Grades 9 and 10), with IGCSE preparation at the end of Grade 10, enabling students to enter the Diploma Programme with confidence. The IB is built on active, inquiry‑based learning interdisciplinary projects that connect learning to real‑world issues, a variety of assessments, several of which focus on personal reflection, a wide choice of subjects allowing students to design a truly personalized pathway, enriching activities such as MUN conferences, the CAS programme, the TOK course, debate workshops, and artistic or scientific projects. This programme develops students who can analyse complex issues, propose innovative solutions, and adapt to a constantly evolving world. It is particularly suited to creative, independent learners who wish to grow in an international environment.
Why is this dual offer so valuable for international families
Because every child has their own pace, personality, and way of learning. Because expatriate families need flexibility. Because university pathways are becoming increasingly diverse. At IISD, this flexibility becomes reality: a methodical student can thrive in the French Baccalaureate, a creative and independent student can find their path in the IB, a student experiencing international mobility can choose the diploma best suited to their future country of study. All benefit from a caring, rigorous, and deeply international environment. It is this ability to welcome different profiles that makes IISD a truly unique school in Rome.
One school, two systems, one shared ambition: unlocking every student’s potential
At the Institut International Saint‑Dominique, choosing a diploma is not a constraint. It is an opportunity to adapt the academic pathway to the child not the other way around. It is also a way to prepare for the future with confidence, whatever path they choose.
