Behind the Scenes of the IISD Rome Boarding School
Experience the daily life of our boarders
A unique experience in the heart of Rome
Entrusting your child to a boarding school is an important decision, one that must inspire confidence and peace of mind. In Rome, the International Institute Saint‑Dominique (IISD) offers a modern, welcoming, and secure boarding environment at the heart of a six‑hectare green campus.
As a member of the Odyssey Education group, IISD combines academic excellence, caring discipline, and an international community life.
To better understand this unique experience, follow a typical day in the life of our boarders.
A peaceful wake‑up in a serene setting
It is 7 a.m. at IISD, and the morning light filters through the curtains on a lush, green campus in the heart of Rome. In their individual or shared rooms, each with a private bathroom, students wake up in a calm and bright space designed for rest and well‑being. In the hallways, the educational team is already present: a smile, a word of encouragement, a reassuring presence to help everyone start the day on the right foot.
Breakfast and first conversations
Between 7 and 8 a.m., students head to the boarding house common room for a full breakfast. They are free to come down whenever they wish during this time slot. Around the tables, boarders chat, laugh, and share their plans for the day. These simple, warm moments build a genuine sense of community and strengthen the bonds between students.
On the way to lessons, on a safe and secure campus
At 8:20 a.m., students leave for class and the boarding house closes until the end of the school day. They join their classrooms at 8:30, meeting their classmates and starting a new day with confidence and calm. The campus is enclosed, monitored, and access is strictly controlled.
Lunchtime in the dining hall
At noon, boarders join their classmates in the dining hall for a balanced and varied lunch. The menus are prepared on site with particular attention to nutritional quality and student well‑being. The kitchen adapts to dietary restrictions for medical or religious reasons, ensuring that everyone’s essential needs are met. This friendly moment allows students to reconnect, talk, and share a quality meal in a warm and multicultural setting.
Back to class
After lunch, students return to class. Boarders meet their teachers again, continue their lessons, and make progress on their academic projects, whether they are preparing for the French Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate. The afternoon unfolds between lessons, group work, workshops, and occasionally external interventions. Everyone progresses at their own pace, supported by a dedicated teaching team that is attentive, demanding, and caring. It is a moment when students develop their skills, refine their study methods, and grow in confidence.
Return to the boarding house and supervised free time
At 4:30 p.m., the boarding house opens its doors again and students return after the end of classes. Some relax in the common lounges, others enjoy the sports facilities or take a walk through the tree‑filled park. Educators are present, available, and attentive to everyone’s needs.
Boarding life through the eyes of our students

“My experience in the boarding house has been very positive and enriching. Living here has helped me become more independent and responsible, while improving my organisational skills and my ability to live within a community.”
Winston Giostra
“I have made wonderful connections at the boarding house, a truly fulfilling place for sharing and growing. I enjoy being able to cook on weekends and go out to do interesting activities in Rome. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the relationships between students and educators are built on trust and respect.”
Study time: discipline and independence
From 5:45 to 7 p.m., a mandatory study period is organised. Students work in a calm environment, supported by the educational team whenever needed. This structured framework develops autonomy, discipline and organisational skills, essential competencies for both academic and personal success.
Dinner and multicultural exchanges
Dinner is an important moment of the day and is served at 7:30 p.m.
Around the tables, languages blend, cultures meet and friendships grow stronger.
This is the very spirit of IISD: an international community where everyone finds their place.
Lively evenings, adventurous weekends
From 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., boarders take part in activities that encourage sports, culture and social life: football, basketball, fitness, movie nights, creative workshops, board games or additional study time for those who need it. At the weekend, the adventure continues with organised outings such as horseback rides, visits to cultural sites, outdoor activities and wonderful moments of sharing. These are all opportunities to build connections, gain confidence and create memories that will mark their boarding school years.
Return to calm and rest
The day ends in a peaceful atmosphere. Bedtime is set at 9 p.m., with possible adjustments depending on the students’ age. Students return to their rooms, read, chat a little longer and then fall asleep in a safe and calming environment. The educational team remains present around the clock, ensuring constant and caring supervision.
A boarding school suited to all families
5‑day boarding (Monday to Friday): ideal for Italian families living outside Rome. 7‑day boarding: perfect for expatriate or international families.
